Here’s a first draft of the transition between Scene 1 and Scene 2. We’re drawn away from the cafe by the change in volume and proximity of the rain, as an ambulance approaches from afar. The siren fades as church bells ring thrice, followed by a haunting Angus Dei interrupted by Jean’s cell phone.
Although my gut said not to use something polished and produced for the church music, my brain said, “Hey gut, this music is pretty awesome, I’m not listening to you.”
It’s Latin, it’s typical for funeral masses, it’s an appropriate length for the opening to scene 2 and the organ is going to sound wicked when the subwoofer is hooked up. I added a bunch of reverb to the original recording. All of the levels and directional qualities will take on new life when I’m actually mixing for 8 channels.
None of this is set in stone, so even if I sound excited and proud of this cue so far, please give me your honest opinions and criticism. One thing I’m wondering is whether the rain should continue in the background all the way through scene 3.
